This is WELL Worth the trip over to Winter Garden if you are coming to visit the City of the Worlds aka Orlando for vacation or just on business travels etc.. Well maintained, breakfast is plentiful and well prepared. I'll stay here the next time I'm in the area...

I've stayed at the Edgewater several times over the past few years and it's one of my favorite places to stay overall, and definitely my favorite hotel in the Orlando area. It has been impeccably restored to its early-20th-century glory, and you'll find the rooms to be clean and comfortable, with more amenities than you might expect at this sort of B&B-style hotel. The staff are great--they take great care and pride in their work. Even though it's larger than what you would normally think of as a B&B, it has a very homey, welcoming atmosphere. So if you're looking for a cookie-cutter modern hotel room with 42-inch HDTVs and Pay-Per-View, you may wish to look elsewhere; but if you want to enjoy some authentic charm and character (in a good way--that's not a brochure euphemism!) then you'll not regret a stay at the Edgewater.

Fantastic hotel run by wonderful people. Each room has a different feel. Food was terrific...was my first B&B experience and would highly recommend The Edgewater Hotel. Our room had a journal in which were entries by various guests over the years. Many people offered very uplifting and spiritual reviews and it was a really nice touch, one I have never seen before. The bed and pillows were fantastic. Best night's sleep I have had in a long time. Do yourself a favor and visit Winter Garden and stay a night or two at The Edgewater Hotel.

First off, I would say that the Edgewater Hotel is definitely not for everyone as is evident by the reviews. If you are looking for a modern hotel with all the modern amenities, this isn't it. If you have a longing for the quirky, a longing for the unusual, a search for history, etc., then this might be for you. I think one needs to be open minded and romantic to enjoy this historic hotel. And boy did I find it romantic... When I use this word, I don't necessarily mean lovey dovey romantic. It was more the romanticism of story, of history, and of a rich past. The website has some excellent and beautiful stories of the beginning of this old building ( historicedgewater.com/hi… ). But if you ask the staff, you will perhaps get more tidbits of the rise, the fall, and the resurrection of this building. The stories tear at my heart as good stories do. My imagination longs to run wild, to write a book perhaps. We stayed in Room 203. It was a lovely room with a double bed and bathroom; outside the window was a garden patio (however, apparently only accessible by the staff--so no peekers). After looking around, if we were up for paying more, I think I would have chosen corner room 212. It was even nicer with a king bed. There were also rooms amenable to a family with more than one bed. But back to 203. This is where you see some of the pluses and minuses of a place like this. Rich deep wood and flooring that has stood the test of time is present. However, my six foot tall husband was a little cramped trying to fit his length in the bed. And even though we are not large people, we were bumping together during the night on the double bed. (Of course, I knew full well it was a double and could have paid more for the king bed in 212). Also, the walls are definitely thin, but I found it relatively quiet (except for maybe the ac). And lastly, the hot water was not strong, but I think it was sufficient. The other inconvenience as mentioned in other reviews, is that the elevator is manned only by the staff, and you will mainly be taking the stairs. However, you have to realize, this is an amazingly old elevator that still works! I can see why they don't let everyone use it. The no smoking policy is also strongly enforced for the still original sprinkler systems which still work and are very sensitive! (Okay, since we don't smoke). The breakfast was cooked to our request and was very traditional. I think I most enjoyed the conversation around the big table with part of the staff, people from other parts of the world and country, etc. I also enjoyed walking around the quaint Winter Garden downtown. There were some lovely little restaurants, bars, and shops. It was VERY quiet on a Monday night, though. It definitely didn't have a hopping nightlife. But all the same, it is a lovely area. Overall, though, another charm of the place was the evident love that has gone into restoring and upkeeping the building. It is only out of love that ones restores a building like that, not for profit. It might one day bring a profit with time and tears, but in reality, you choose to restore a building because you love it. And one could tell by the grounds, that there was love in the upkeep. There were lovingly tended plants, food set out for cats, etc. The touch of love touched me. With all the quirkiness, we had a good time here and formed some great memories. :)

Recommended to me, I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem. Since I was attending a family function nearby, found this to be conveniently located. Best of all, it was not one of the cookie- cutter hotels, we are all so used to..but had it's own charm and personality. Found my room to be quiet and very comfortable. I would have appreciated if the mirror over the sink was bigger and the lighting less harsh..for putting on make up. Breakfasts looked amazing and are cooked to order, after making your choice from a menu. Since I was attending a Brunch, it was just coffee for me. Very much enjoyed my stay and highly recommend it .

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. If you love the B&B experience, historic properties, beautiful antiques, and feeling like you are staying with family, this is the place for you. Beautiful, old world charm. It takes you back to the 1920s with a graceful personality that you cannot find in a modern hotel. This is all about comfort, warmth, solitude, and feeling like you're home. All of the fun of Old Winter Garden and its amazing restaurants and shops are right outside of your front door. Super clean and lovingly maintained. The staff is wonderful and friendly (you can feel it when the team loves where they work--and the team here loves their hotel), and the homecooked breakfast and fantastic coffee were the best way to get the day started. Highly recommended for those who love B&Bs and a more personalized hotel stay. Also, I love the birds in the great room. They are so cute and welcomed us to breakfast with their dancing and chirping. This is a wonderful experience. Will definitely be back!

This was a charming B&B located right in the middle of the adorable Winter Garden city center. It was more than I expected and the breakfast and coffee and snacks that were available were such nice touches!! If you need a 54" TV and silence when you sleep, this is probably not the place for you but if you enjoy authentic lodging, reasonable pricing and an absolutely accommodating and awesome staff, I HIGHLY recommend it!

A delightful renovated early 1900s hotel run by 4 young women who really understand the meaning of service. Rooms decorated in period furniture with modern bedding and plumbing. Well prepared breakfasts to order. We'll be back.

My wife and I have family in the Orlando area, but we chose instead to spend our last night at the Historic Edgewater Hotel in Winter Garden. We had stayed at other bed-and-breakfast style inns on our trip, but this one was definitely the most magical :-) From the vintage ambiance to the "you're like family to us" service from the staff (including the made-to-order breakfast!), our stay at the Edgewater was a fantastic experience.

This place was quite strange. We had some issues with this place, but I guess some people are more forgiving. Here were the issues I remember: 1. There is a nursery of sorts that was situated directly above our (and other) room(s) and they start the Romper Room around sunrise. This is not for everyone. 2. The elevator was an issue and the stairs were the only real option, but it was a bit of a hike. 3. There were birds in the kitchen area that again, I found a bit odd. 4. The decor was cluttered looking and reminded me of the show "American Pickers". 5. It seems as if the staff is more concerned with the band (Christian Rock, I think? But I am really not sure) than the actual inn and it seems like the inn is just a place for them to all live together. 6. The bed and room in general was not very comfortable and we pretty much tossed and turned and just waited until morning. I don't believe we even wanted to shower the next morning. 7. Overall, the price was too high for the accommodations and the breakfast was a joke. I will not stay here agan and I hope there are better options in the area, but if you have to stay here. I do believe you will survive the night. I would not recommend attempting to stay for more than 1 night. I've had better night's sleeping in my car... ouch. Sorry, but I felt the need to let some others know what I experienced, so they have some idea of what to expect.

We visited mostly to bike the West Orange Trail. This was our second yearly visit. The staff is dedicated to pleasing guests, and the rooms were comfortable and very clean. This is an old hotel, and it shows its age but that is part of the charm. The town of Winter Garden is delightful, with many eating establishments of all price ranges. We will visit again.

It is hard to even know where to start... 1. Guest are not allowed to use the elevator. When we checked in with our bags we had to wait 20 mins for the desk clerk to take us to our room or we could hike up 3 flights of very steep concrete dimly light steeps. Along with the fact that once you get up there the only way back down is to take the stairs. 2. The rooms were down right DIRTY! (We stayed in the bridal suite) 3. Dust covered everything the silk flowers flowers had layers of that went back years! 4. The bead spread, well lets just say the thought of sitting on it was terrifying. 5. The decor was nothing but side of the road throw aways. Being in the decorating biz and know antique's very well. everthing in the place needs to go back to the curb from which it was found! 6. After a large dinner at the Chef Table which was the whole reason for staying we went back to the room to relax. This never happend!!! The place is loud the walls are paper thin. 7. After giving up on relaxing we just decided the faster we went to sleep the faster we could get out of that place. 8. The bed was terribly uncomfortable, Sheet were thread bare, and had a lovely aroma of mildew. 9. After a few hours of sleep I was awaken at 5am but what sounded like bowling. This continued until we left. Evidently a few families live up stairs along with a band. 10. Breakfast was well very hard to eat due to the stench of bird droppings from the the birds cages that were in the breakfast room. We packed quickly and could not get out of Edgewater Hotel as soon as we could! While we were leaving one of the Staff asked how our stay was when I told her about the noise and how hard it was to sleep she offered a gift certificate for a free night stay. We declined due to the reasons stated above. But the staff was friendly.

I was looking for something that I didn't think was possible while visiting the Orlando area: a hotel that was in a walkable district. The Edgewater delivered on the promise it made in its promotional video. This nicely restored historic hotel was in fact, near to several bars, restaurants and shops as well as a short distance from nature conservation areas. The hotel itself has the oldest operating elevator in the world. OK, I made that up but it is a very old and authentic elevator that is worth riding once just to say you did it. The common area (where freshly cooked breakfast is served each morning) is on the second floor with the guest rooms. The hotel accommodations are not posh or glossy but if you choose an octogenerian hotel, you're probably more concerned with character and atmosphere than luxury anyway. Pipes are left exposed (though painted the same color as the room) and with the high ceilings, large windows, and antique fixtures, you really start to feel as though you're living in another era. However, I should note that the windows are very old and the walls paper thin so you can hear the street noise as though you were outside. The hotel is about 1/2 an hour drive from the Orlando theme parks and was a refreshing change of pace from the frenetic convergence of tourists in Orlando proper.

If you are looking for a chain hotel with amenities (i.e pool), then do not go here. If you are looking for character, bed and breakfast and authentic then this place is it. The hotel is very nice and represents the era at its best. The breakfast and the service is superb. The location is top notch as you are in the heart of the historic downtown. You can enjoy the beauty of the downtown and easily access, antique shops, bookstores, cafes, restaurants, etc. It is a perfect place to rest and unwind. Check in early in if you can so that you can take in more of the town. Negative, you can hear traffic in the rooms as these are old windows and not double pane. The beautiful part is that you can hear the bell ring every hour too (not bothersome), as it adds to the character. Winter Haven is a beautiful place and this hotel really has it made. Love the community aspect of sitting together with everyone and having breakfast.
